London Poetry Open Mic – A Night of Creative Fusion at Grow, Hackney

As a poet, photographer, and voice over artist, I’ve always believed in the transformative power of the arts. As many of you know, I’m Ovyuki, the founder of Hidden Literature, and on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, I’m inviting you to join me for a night that blends words and rhythm at our London Poetry Open Mic. Taking place at Grow in Hackney, this event is my love letter to spoken word, live music, and creative connection, and we’re turning it up a notch in celebration of World Music Day.

London Poetry Open Mic: Where Words Meet Music

When people ask what sets our London poetry open mic apart, the answer is simple: we make space for fusion. Poetry doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It lives in melody, harmony, and beat. That’s why I encourage every performer to bring a backing track or some musical flair to their set. Whether you’re a spoken word artist, poet, rapper, or singer, this is your invitation to take the stage and bring your art to life. At Hidden Literature, we’ve always believed that rhythm is part of the message, and this open mic is designed to give artists the freedom to express both.

Why This Poetry Night Is So Special

The vibe we’ve cultivated at Hidden Literature open mic nights is like no other. It’s inclusive, energetic, and deeply inspiring. What I love most is seeing the courage in first-time performers and the depth brought by seasoned voices. As your host, I’m not just on stage, I’m in the crowd, cheering you on and celebrating every verse, every chorus, every story.

World Music Day gives us the perfect excuse to turn the volume up. Expect a diverse range of sounds and styles, from mellow soul to punchy hip-hop, to poetry pieces laced with jazz or afrobeat rhythms. This is more than a poetry night. It’s a creative celebration, and you’re invited to be a part of it.

London Poetry Open Mic Playlist – Vibes Before the Night

To get in the spirit, I’ve curated a playlist inspired by the artists who perform at our events. Think neo-soul, underground hip-hop, ambient beats, and lyrical powerhouses. It’s the kind of soundtrack that sets the mood and gets your pen moving. Listen to the Poetry & Spoken Word Playlist here.

What To Expect from a Hidden Literature Open Mic

The mic is open, but the energy is curated. I take time to make sure every performer feels seen, heard, and celebrated. If you’ve never performed before, this is a safe space to try. If you’re a regular at oen mics, you’ll feel the difference in the crowd. There’s no gatekeeping, no elitism — just vibes, passion, and honest expression.

This isn’t just for poets. If you’re an artist, a creative, or someone looking for new inspiration, this is your night too. Music producers, DJs, visual artists, come network, connect, and vibe with a creative crowd that’s here for it all.

Why World Music Day Matters to Us

World Music Day isn’t just a theme, it’s a call to action. It reminds us that music is a universal language. By merging it with poetry, we amplify stories and bridge communities. This event celebrates that intersection, and I’m so excited to be hosting it.

Over the years, I’ve seen how music and poetry can heal, uplift, and connect people. That’s the motivation behind Hidden Literature and everything I do as a creative. On 3rd June, I want us to gather in that spirit, of expression, of togetherness, and of sound.
